Daily reading for February 13 from “As If I Was In Your Office…”

Priorities “The key to recovery is the fellowship!” Fr. Paul – Dec. 19, 2007.

In our disease we did not like people or want them to be part of our lives. We tried to avoid them or just hated them. We were as closed as a clenched fist. That is the only way we could survive. We thought the people around us were the problem so we shut them out. We lived in the past with our anger, hatred, resentments and self-pity. The past controlled us and we brought our past hates and resentments into today.

Recovery works because the opposite to the disease of alcoholism is to accept the people that God puts in your life today. To live a day at a time has nothing to do with the time. It has everything to do with the people. Either I will be open to them and include them in my life no matter what time of day the clock says, I will ignore them because I am still in my disease. The people in my life are not the cause of my alcoholism.

My commitment today is to be involved in the fellowship and people’s lives!

Not only did the people at Brentwood change my son, but they changed me as a mother. It allowed me to develop an amazing relationship with my son. When we found Brentwood, I was as much in need of help as my son was. I could not have done this journey without help. Without Brentwood’s help!

By coming to Family Support meetings with an open heart, I found a support system like no others. Brentwood staff have continued to work with my son in his Recovery while I worked my own program. This has allowed us to celebrate and grow in recovery as a family. I will be forever grateful to Brentwood!
